Purple Kush is an Indica strain with its striking colors and pleasant taste. It was created by breeders in an Oakland, California neighborhood called Oaksterdam. Purple Kush is a pure indica hybrid strain and crossed between two South-Central Indigenous native breeds: the Hindu Kush, the mountainous border between Pakistan and Afghanistan, and various Afghani with purple touches. Purple Kush has a THC composition that ranges from 17% to 27%.
This strain has medium-sized flowers, like popcorn when cured, with a very dense and heavy bud structure. Depending on the phenotype, the leaves can be equal parts green and purple.
The trend toward purple, selectively bred from the parental purple kush strain, occurs when the plant’s anthocyanins, chlorophyll-like pigments, are activated under cold growing conditions.
The breakdown of chlorophyll and stimulation of red and yellow pigments that cause foliage to change color in the fall is similar to this process.
