The Consell de Mallorca, through the Fundació Mallorca Turisme, wants to put together the most ambitious tourism project on the island in Europe before the end of March. To do this, it will produce a short that will be broadcast on the Netflix and Amazon platforms, in which internationally famous actors will participate and a prestigious director will be hired, according to the insular minister of Tourism, Andreu Serra.
At the moment it is in the pre-production phase, in which all contacts are being maintained to close contracts and start the filming of the short, and in everything concerning tenders. Serra appreciates the commitment of the president of the Consell, Catalina Cladera, to try to turn around the current tourism situation in Mallorca affected by the COVID-19 crisis and thus generate economic activity, job creation and dynamism throughout the tourist industry.
«We are going to take advantage of the experience and material of the project ‘Mallorca in the foreground’, which was presented in the last edition of Fitur-Madrid, to produce a short that affects and makes known the sustainable, safe Mallorca and how it has evolved with products that complement the traditional sun and beach offer. It means showing the other Mallorca around the world and positioning ourselves as a safe destination in the current crisis marked by the pandemic,”says Serra.
Process
The island councilor for Tourism adds that the project “is ambitious and we want to position Mallorca in the current crisis marked by the pandemic in 2021. We want the project to be completed by the end of March and to start its promotion immediately on platforms such as Amazon and Netflix, as well as on the main communication channels of the main European countries, but more specifically in the United Kingdom, Germany and Scandinavian countries ».
The short or medium-length film, as it is yet to be decided, will be presented at the Cannes, Venice and Bernilale film festivals. Serra points out that “these are festivals in which we are already present through the Mallorca Film Commission, hence the experience gained will allow the project to have a long international journey and influence the messages we want to promote.”
The entire short production process will be rapid in order to affect all European source markets as of April. The Consell wants to reach agreements with the main platforms in each country to achieve the greatest promotional impact of the project.
The budget is not yet closed, since it will depend on the cache of the director and the actors that are chosen and hired. Also, the title has not been decided and the entire project will be presented shortly by the Consell. “There is a lot of interest in executing it; hence we want to print as quickly as possible to reach the source markets. As soon as the short is done, it will be time to plan its promotion and close all possible agreements to have an impact on time in European countries for the summer season, ”says Serra.
