India has a very well developed regional film industry also, besides Bolllywood, functional in the country. There are two Tollywoods, which produce Telegu and Bengali films, Kollywood that produces Tamil films, Sandalwood that produces Kannada films, Pollywood for producing Punjabi films, two Mollywoods for production of Marathi and Malayalam films and the Bhojiwood for producing Bhojpuri films.
Bollywood or the Hindi Film Industry is generally understood as the National film industry in India. But the numbers will tell a different story altogether. Out of an average production of about 1,900 films every year in India, only 340 films are from Hindi Film Industry. The bulk of the rest of total films produced in India are from Southern states of India, Bengal, Maharashtra, Punjab and Gujarat. The Hindi films from Bollywood are visible throughout the country but the lion’s share of profit in this industry is with the other film industries, other than Bollywood.
