Steve Jobs once said “Our job is to figure out what they’re going to want before they do. I think Henry Ford once said, ‘If I’d ask customers what they wanted, they would’ve told me a faster horse. ‘ People don’t know what they want until you show it to them.”
And I think Tesla has a lot of that with their updates and controls. Things I didn’t know I’d ever want on my car but once I got it I now think, why would you NOT want this on every car…
The climate controls for winter. My garage is insulated but not heated. It stays above freezing most days but I’ve got a heat trace on a pipe that runs through because Minnesota winters can get really cold.
I set my car to be at 72 degrees with the seat warmer on low and already warm every weekday at 4:30 AM, right when I’m hopping in it to go to work now. That’s pretty smooth. And don’t have to open the garage door to warm it up (no exhaust). My other cars it wasn’t as easy (I’d have to remember to go downstairs open the garage, start up the auto start head back upstairs to shower, and then have a cold garage and a warm car which was about half of the time I’d remember). Just hop in a warm car and go now.
Being able to turn on the heat from my desk rather than cross the plant and poke my head out to start the auto start heater is nice too. And I can see the interior temp from my phone.
The other nice newer one is being able to set it so it doesn’t lock when it’s at home in the garage. A few times I’d walk up when my phone is upstairs to grab something out of it and have to run back to unlock it.
