High cost and poor reliability.
The cost is pretty obvious, even the “affordable” Model 3 is substantially more expensive than similar cars. Here in the UK it costs a good £10,000 more than something like a Volkswagen ID3, and nearly £20,000 more than a Mitsubishi Outlander (although that’s only a PHEV).
Tesla cars came close to the bottom of the list for reliability in Which’s annual car survey for 2021:
They scored an unimpressive two out of five stars for 0–3 years and only one star in 3–8 years. That survey is results directly from thousands of owners by the way.
Teslas were nearly as unreliable as Land Rovers, which are widely regarded as some of the least reliable things you can possibly drive.
