FIFA is a French word. It is the abbreviation of Federation Internationale de Football Association. FIFA is the governing body of World Football. FIFA was founded in the city of Paris on May 21st, in the year 1904. It was formed by representatives from Belgium, Denmark, France, the Netherlands, Spain, Sweden and Switzerland. England joined FIFA after one year.
FIFA now has 209 member associations. FIFA is a larger organization than the United Nations, because the UN has 193 members where as FIFA has 209 members.
FIFA plays a very important role in regulating the game across the world. FIFA organizes the World Cup every Four years that generates income running into hundreds of millions of US Dollars. Globally, this sport generates hundreds of billions of US Dollars every year.
