Stress may prove to be overwhelming in old age. There are many physical and social setbacks a person may suffer in her/his old age that can make the person feel gloomy. A person may lose someone dear, who was elderly, or her/his eating habits may change, the physical abilities may get reduced or limited, the person may lose her/his apetitite and all these may cause severe stress to the person and many of these symptoms may arise from the overwhelming stress the person is suffering from, which is as a result of the old age the person has attained.
This old age related stress can be very successfully managed by anyone. The first step towards stress management is acceptance of age. The person should be thankful for his longevity. How many of us can reach an old age? So, this is an achievement in life to become old.
The second step to counter the age related stress is to deny the age as far as possible. You have to remain physically and mentally active more than ever before. You may be having some free time now that you may not be regularly working anywhere to earn your livelihood. You need to exercise more, be mentally involved with something you love doing, such as may be doing photography, reading, painting or whatever you love doing. Your creativity will give your life new directions and you will feel more purposeful and useful to yourself, your family and the society.
